700r4 Dust Shield Bolts

I posted this over in the Engine area but I thought I post here too since I don't know how many people frequent that section, not me since I just barely used it to ask my question!

I am putting a 700r4 in my 53 Panel truck and for some reason the guy I bought it from didn't provide the bolts to mount the dust shield but did give me the shield its self. So now I am left to try and find some. Nobody at my local parts house knows crap about anything that isn't in the system by year make and model and if I just pick something out of the hat the system doesn't even say they can get something for me to try. Jegs and Summit don't see to have anything either, or I'm just searching for the wrong terms.

Anyway, I'm hoping someone here knows what size bolt I should be looking for.

Thanks.

I would try a trans shop I think they are a sheet metal thread, second option is drill and tap for some 1/4 20's

Is a 700R4 metric?

I have a little asortment of metric bolts and nut bought from autozone. There is the right ones in it, but I don't remimber what size it was.

TH350 has 1/4 and 10mm (wrench size) depending on the year. I found that out when I put a 74 truck trans in my Chevelle a few years ago (which may have come out of a car, it was not original). 700 trans may be the same deal.

The 700r4 is a Metric. I have some bolts from the th350 that was in there and they don't work. I guess I can just buy a bunch and try them till I find something. Keep any suggestions coming though as I had the guessing game!

Pretty sure I used some metric screws from a later TH400...they have a course "screw" thread, not a machine bolt.

Try TCI they might be able to help you out. That is where we got our 700R4 for the truck that I am building.

Re: 700r4 Dust Shield Bolts

Mine is an early pre computer transmission, don't know the exact year, and it uses #14 sheet metal screw size. I checked my 94 GMC and it also uses the same size. Auveco supplies them but you can probably get them at NAPA or other chain store knowing the size. Be careful tapping to 1/4-20 because that is about the same size as #14 and there would not be much left for threads.

Re: 700r4 Dust Shield Bolts

Ok so I finally got around to actually trying to install the shield using the bolts described in my same post under the 47-55 Trucks and the winner is....

6mm x 1mm bolt. (10mm bolt head)

So in the future hopefully this helps someone else too!

Thanks for your help!

I know this is an old post but THANK YOU PanelRodder81!! I had been looking for that info. I tried a search on the forum but didn't put in the correct search keywords. Oddly enough a BING search led me here.

I am going to place this link in the thread I started.

Thanks again.

Glad it was a help! Funny enough I'm running the same transmission in a different truck now... without a dust pan!

and funnier yet, that inspection cover doesn't look like it fits. I tried it Saturday and NONE of the holes lined up nor did it fit between the pan and oil pan.
