removing paint off door panels & EGR?
well when i got my truck i wanted to change the interior to black so i painted my door panels black is there anyway i can just remove the paint off them? or can repaint them better so it wont flake off in some spots.
Also did my truck come with a EGR? 86 chevy c30 10,000lb GVWR Carb 454, no cats , just a smog pump. Truck was sold in california. And i live here if that matters. |
Re: removing paint off door panels & EGR?
I would remove all the paint.
A dual action sander from harbor freight is like $20. Then primer, and repaint. Update: Crap, just re-read and caught you said "door panels" which means the interior (plastic) ones, right? In that case a good high-grit sandpaper to take the paint down and get a specific plastic rattle can paint. Follow the instructions. EGR: Almost positive something that new would have had one. |

You can't sand texture. If it has the factory panels still on it, then there is texture.
Easiest thing to do is probably get the panels off, strip off all the cloth and such where all you have is the hard plastic panel. Try on a small area, just to be sure, but lacquer thinner on a rag should take off all the paint, quickly too. Just make sure you get every last bit of it off. Then clean them with soap and water, and then with degreaser, then with wax and grease remover. Then do it again like 20 times. They can simply not be clean enough. Once cleaned and ready to paint, get some SEM Color Coat spray bombs in the color you want. They also make an adhesion promoter you can use that helps aid in the paint sticking. I actually prefer Bulldog adhesion promoter (Kleanstrip is the brand), had excellent luck with it over the years. Any store like O'Reillys should sell the SEM Color Coat, and have a color chip sheet to look at. If not, you can view it online: http://semproducts.com/images/Users/...0CC%202008.pdf |

if i use the thinner will it leave them looking funny? i would just like to have blue ones thats the way they came. |
Re: removing paint off door panels & EGR?
Once you wipe/clean them with thinner, they will have a significant white haze on them no doubt. Try it on a small area down low first, see what it does. I have been able to clean panels up and then wash real good with soap and water and apply armorall and shine them up.
Just do not armorall them if you are going to respray them, or even think you are going to respray them. Armorall is paints worst enemy. |
