Is there any thing I should look for? 1999 Suburban 200k miles, new tires , new ac. Price $3500.00.

Ask if the intake gaskets have been changed, @ 200k they should have been changed at least once if not twice.

Okay took a test drive and the only thing is it took a long time to start cold??

You can still get a lot of life out of it. These trucks are going forever if taken care of. I have seen some with 300K, and even heard of a few with 400K with little or no problems.

Same here, one of the guys at work has a 97 Hoe with 325k on it. He keeps up with the maint. We did intake gaskets @ 140k and replaced the dist gear @ 200k. There have been other "failures", but nothing serious (water pump, fuel pump, AC parts)

the fuel pump is probley going out hence the long time to start at cold

Update after some thinking on buying we were still waiting and looking.

New listing of a 98 suburban with 177k miles asking $3800. Owner owned since 2000. Had fuel pump replace a year ago charge valve on AC replace and normal maintenace. It also had someone break in through drivers door one time. Now the handle is a little messed up but work and if you lightly close the door the door will not shut all the way. Owner said bearing in door might be out but I looked at them a they appeared to be in good shape. Looks to me like the door need to be realigned.

Now wife wants and owner accepted our offer but can not locate title (just moved). So we might be on hold for two weeks until replacement title can be sent. Unless Texas will allow title transfer without title but owner present.

Will post again on outcome. If It happen I will have to start posting in the other forum.

Update:

We bought the 98 for 3K. Since we live in Austin they typed up a title right there and completed transaction.

Now got to fix door alignment I notcied that there is a tool you can buy for this I think I will invest in that.
Also have to fix drivers seat as one of the mounts form the chair to the moving carriage is broken. Should be fixable with a large fender washer!

Before using the door alignment tool, make sure the pins and bushings are in good shape. Open the door and grab the edge and pick up. If there is any slack/movement in the hinge, it needs to be fixed before you use the tool. The tool actually forces the hinges back to their original position by bending the mounting points on the body back into shape. Adjusting it with worn pins/bushing will force the hinges past their original location and may cause issues in the future if they get replaced after the adjustment.

No, you just have to be patient and take your time so you don't scratch anything. I do one hinge at a time using a floorjack with a 2x4 on it and a towel on the 2x4 to support the door and to also move it up and down to access the internals of the hinge. The only part that will pose some difficulty is reinstalling the spring that helps to hold the door open. There is a tool you can buy at most parts stores for about $15 that compresses the spring for easy removal/installation.
