GRRR carb/fuel filter problem
ok not really a carb problem, but its on the carb.. i installed an inline fuel filter, no problem.. took old one out.. was replacing the piece that holds the old fuel finlter in... well it started fine, but cross threaded.. S.O.B.... all cock-eyed.. took it out.. threats are all torn up.. i kept trying to get it straight it wouldnt go.. i tried to seal it but it leaks.. am i just screwed and have to buy a new carb? everything else went good today... inline filter, chrome water neck, finished up vacc lines... something...always something..

Damn....ease up on the stuff "Arnold" haha
Hope it can be fixed man |
No new carb needed. If you can't get it to work, they sell a fuel inlet repair kit. All it is, is a new one that has thread cutting, well, threads. It will cut news threads as it goes in. Will work as good as new. Be sure to remove it after you get it in and clean all the shaving out real good.
Remember two things when it comes to carbs. Be gentle and clean. You can't man handle these things. They will bite you everytime. Don't feel bad, I've crossthreaded a few in my day too. Keep your head up man. It will get better. |
I've also done that. I fixed mine with some JB weld on the threads. Let it dry completely then run gas though the carb inlet to get any loose particles out and not in engine. Worked great.
mike, where did you get the kit? Brandon..that was my next idea.
Jon,
they are usually in the self help section. You know where they keep all the plastic vacuum line, oil pan plugs, etc. I just called Advance to see if they still sold them. He said they did. I guess Pepboys, Autozone or any of them will have them. Good luck. |
thank you sir
Be sure to take your old one with you. There are a few different ones, depending on year. Best I can remember anyway. It's been a long time since I used one.
went to autozone, they didnt have the repair kit, i picked up an epoxy "weld"... set it tonight will see how it works tomorrow...thanks guys
it worked..... thanks again.
good deal jon!! :)

theres nothing like putting a carb on in the snow, hopefully it will work this time.
Let me know if you need a core carb for parts. I got one if its a q-jet
that would rock man, i got to work and smelled fuel and knew it hadnt worked. i covered that SOB with epoxy but to no avail.. i have never taken a carb apart but could do it in a good day or weekend. and would be a good time to do some of the mods on MIkes site.. pkbinplano what do i owe you?
ok its a mod 17084500 hot air choke but you could probly put your elect choke on it. I bought it on Ebay and it got kinda bunged up in shipping. Kinda bent vacume ports. Was replaced n/c by seller. For all I know you might be able to bolt it on and go. Worth a try. Just pay shipping fair enough ? Email me
pkbinplano@msn.com with your address , I'll mail asap for you soon as your address is recieved. |
dont you freakin hate them in carb filters. that like the first thing i change on a truck.. just be carfull with that nut! i have stripped one too
pkbinplano, what all is messed up on the carb? i had planned on taking mine apart and just swapping the bodies.
You can do that or try it like it is before you disassemble them both. Don't know if anything is wrong with it, got it off ebay. Just some of the vacume ports dented in shipping. Like I said, may be worth a try. I never tried this carb. Looks ok other than above. Should be able to swap bodies but I'd try it complete first. JMO
