serp swap

I'm thinking of doing a serpetine swap on my '86 305, I have the whole set up off a '90 v6 w/ac. can I run the setup with the ac comp on there without it hooked up? just free wheeling? cause I don't have air cond on my truck. would it ruin the compressor? I would like to have a/c someday when I find a donor. but for now I need the compressor on there for propper belt length, and I can't get the bolts out without taking the clutch off the compressor and it would look stupid without it.

If the system stays open for a long period of time the compressor will not be anygood anyhow. I have just left the compressor to freewheel in the past. There is also an a/c delete pulley available for about 35 bucks. Amazon.com: Dorman HELP AC Bypass Pulley 34157:... Amazon.com: Dorman HELP AC Bypass Pulley 34157:... . You should be able to get the bolts off. Its a tight but definately doable.

Re: serp swap

If you look at the compressor bolts they have one flat side that will just barely slide past the pulley/clutch to allow removal of the compressor with the pulley/clutch intact.

I thought I looked for something like that, guess I'll have to look again. or make my own "flat spots". thanks.
