New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
3 Attachment(s)
So I have had this truck for almost a year now, and replace the engine with a freshly rebuilt 350. This truck runs very strong right now but always looked like hell. A few hours of pulling trim, hand sanding, and $40 worth of paint, supplies and a 4" foam roller and I made it look quite a bit better(painting in my driveway btw). This was the first coat and I have some wet sanding and a few more coats to go for full coverage Again, this is certainly a budget job, and because I use my truck as a truck, I am not too concerned with dings and scratches. I think you might agree that it looks much better now, and will be even better once I am done! Enjoy!
Before and after pics... (sorry about the bad after pic...It was getting dark) What do you think? |

Outstanding improvement!

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
you should see how nice it comes out when ya actually spray it (instead of brush/foam).. my 91 k1500 bed is done in rustoleum white and looks better than/as good as the stock paint

If I had a gun and air, I would have sprayed it in the driveway:metal: |

I think it looks great for a rolled on job! What could it hurt? It looks way better than before! Good job!

A few more...
Again not perfect, but certainly better! And yes, the grill emblem is a bit tweaked in these pics... I do have it nice and straight though. (I wanted a billet grill, but I made the stock emblem work...haven't seen this done yet:metal:) |

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
Man, that looks great! I wouldn't have believed it was brushed/rolled on. It shines real good.

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
gloss white or semi gloss white? i have been thinking of spraying mine with something similar i have been useing rustoluemn on my projects and i am well please with it

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
"gloss white" is what I used. I am very pleased with how it turned out. If you were to start with a straight body, I am sure the results would be even better!

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
Looks great!
I just did mine with orange and it was a LOT of work but totally worth it! The rollers work great as long as you thin the paint enough. |

Re: New look for my 71' C20 Custom Camper
I think it looks great, at least its uniform now and that makes a huge difference. OK now I am going to tell you the down side of using rustoleum. They use a fish oil in rustoleum and that will cause FISH EYES Galore (Kind of a Ring and a raised area in the paint) if you try to paint over it with Urathanes (Basically you have to strip it off completely and start over if you want to paint a Urathane). That being said your intended purpose of using it for a truck fits your needs so thats just a lesson I learned when I bought a truck that a guy used Rustoleum on, Grantid it saved the top of the truck from rusting so It has its benefits as well. Anyway that truck looks a lot better. GOOD ON YOU!!!
