Is this a good deal?

I found a 86 chevy pick up short bed :metal:. This is what it needs:

New cab corners
small rust fix on bed
rebuilt motor
new top dash
and head liner

The guys about 3 hours from me and he wants $800. Is that a good deal or should i keep looking. Also this is going to be my first car/truck lol. I can get pics if you need them but the body is not in bad shape other then the bed.

Thanks Brandon :chevy:

well for a first truck the main thing is the mechanical soundness of the running train ,if it runs and drives good and has a fair to good body without widespread heavy rot. i'd go look at it with somebody that knows mechanical stuff(your dad?)and has experience

maybe start your offers out around the $500 range

MAKE SURE IT HAS A LEGAL CLEAR TITLE

i like those trucks too

I dunno man The cab corners are going to cost some money and if it needs overhauled too then I'd tell him 500 is the max. when you could just shoot another 2k on that and find one that just needs some interior and paint slapped on it.

Yeah my dad owns a engine shop so the engine part is really a big deal, to get in in drivable shape it needs the engine thats it.

Idk if i read it right but i saw on LMC trucks site that replacments cab corners where about $15. Not sure if i read it right though. So would you say $800for the truck is a little to high? My dad said no more than $600 on a good day.

Id follow what your dad says. $800 is too high imo for a vehicle that needs moderate body work and a rebuilt motor.

a pic is worth a thousand words but with this kind of question we need more than a few pics to assess the situation from dead on with the doors open and underneath
In your neck of the woods a poor shape truck goes for more money that where i live because pickups are more valued there, but i can buy trucks like that in the $200=$500 range all day here.
Your dad prolly knows best about this truck tho

Think about ball joints and brakes and all of that stuff. when i picked up my truck it was 500 and i had to do the lower ball joints before it would pass inspection. not to mention all of the shocks. How is the rear end? does it need new bearings or seals. Mine also ran, smokes a little but runs strong. 800 sounds like way too much to me.
