78 sierra 1500 rust
 

I just picked up a 78 sierra 1500 and it has a little rust problem on the frame, it has got a couple holes in the rear part of the frame just after the rear shock mount on the passenger side. im kinda stuck between getting a new frame or just patching the spot, any tips or suggestions would be nice, thank you

if you don't go with another frame maybe a back half frame welded one? or cut out the holes and butt weld in some new metal then plate over it. Or just pltae over the rust holes inside and out?

yea im trying to do it on a budget but also make it look good enough to get inspected, btw i have pics of it but dont know how to put them up it says to enter the URL but they are saved on my computer. anyways its a 78 sierra 1500 with original tach in dash, with 6 inch suspension lift 3 inch body, with a sbc350 with the 4 speed tranny with granny gear, axle truss kit on front axle, dual shocks with dual steering stablizer shocks sitting on 17x40x15 Gumbo super mudders. So if someone can help me with the pics issue that would help, i have windows 7

make a user on www.photobucket.com and upload the pics to it and use the link on the site.

If money aint to big of a deal and you have room for it do a frame swap.

get a half ton chassie and strip it down. get it sandblasted or cleaned up with wires wheels on a angle grinder ( i did mine that way) and paint it.
then when the chassies done strip the chassie from the your truck starting with suspension so you can get a roller then drive line and replace any rotten or dameaged brake stuff hoses, lines etc while your at it. put cab, front clip and bed on last

I you need a frame, I have an 83 chevy 1/2 ton no rust you can have for the cost of freight

no those where early 80s custom grills cant remember who made those but they are darn near imposibel to find

It is cool, but as for the frame looks like alot of rust spots I think either a back half of a good frame or complete frame swap is in order, it'd be alot of plateing ad welding to fix.

I would try and take xrcr up on the offer. Or try and find a better frame somewhere. That frame looks pretty bad IMO. If you lived closer I would give you a 83 3/4 ton frame (and the rest of the truck lol) for a couple bills.
