couple questions...
First, any A/C experts around here?
I'm having some issues with the A/C in my crew I recently replaced the Condenser, Orifice tube, and accumulator. Then within a couple weeks my compressor went out (I'm pretty sure it was due to me not adding enough oil), it quit building pressure on the high side. So I replaced the compressor, pulled a deep vacuum and recharged it. Throughout the whole process the A/C has been lack-luster at best. Now my pressures are right where they should be and the inlet to the evaporator is ice cold. My accumulator is sweating like crazy. I have tried adding and subtracting refrigerant. My vent temps are only slightly cool. I have checked the blend doors and all that is working correctly. Everything I have read online is pointing towards moisture in the system. How can I tell if my accumulator is bad (I realize it is cheap to replace, But I really hate throwing money at a problem with out condemning parts). I'm also wondering about the evaporator. I'm going to get a laser thermometer in a few minutes so maybe I can pin-point the problem. I'm open to suggestions..... second issue, I need the little bushing that the spring holds against the frame side bracket on the stock auto transmission shift assembly. Mine is completely missing. So far i have been unsuccessful at finding any online. Any one know a source for these? Part number? How about a picture even? Maybe I can just make one.... Thanks!! |

Thanks for the suggestion. Tomorrow I'm gonna pull the orifice tube and check it out and flush my evaporator while I have it apart. I'm also leaning towards replacing the accumulator...... |

Have you tried to crimp off the hoses going to the heater core yet? Pressures around 30-35 low side and 190-250 high side? Make sure the slider for the temp control is moving the lever to full cold. You can see the lever right behind the glove box.

If the compressor blew up you need to replace the accumulator and orifice tube as well as flush the rest of the system. Stuff scatters everywhere and its very likely the orifice tube is clogged as well as accumulator. Just remember any trash in the system can makes its way back into the compressor and turn into and endless vicious cycle

I don't mean to hijack this thread or anything but where is the cheapest everyone has found a compressor mine is out on the truck I just bought as well.

my compressor left a mess Attachment 621996 I flushed and flushed and flushed then flushed some more ;) replaced the accumulator and orifice tube, then I added oil, pulled a deep vacuum, checked for leak-down, and charged it up with the correct amount of refrigerant. The family and I took it for a ride to OKC and we were getting @ 51*F center vent temperature on the highway with 100*F outside. It is nice to have a working A/C in my old truck FINALLY!!:metal: Thanks for all the help guys |

Good deal man. I figured your orifice tube would look exactly like that. Anytime a compressor goes orifice tube and drier are mandatory replacement aside from flushing everything else.

out of curiosity, what do you guys use to flush? I bought some flush in a can that has d-Limonene as the solvent. It seemed kinda oily and hard to get all of it out. |

Good to hear. I get to fix air conditioning in a 88 Chevy he had the same problem. Hope you get many hassle free miles

careful on the 4 seasons recon compressors from orielly..
i crapped out the 3rd r4 compressor in 2 years this summer. GRRR I am getting brackets and a sanden compressor to end run the r4 and hopefully cold air, too.(: |

Whats wrong with reman?? We have had no problems with any of our remans? Only things I dont trust reman are alternators, and starters.. Never had luck with em.

I know a few people that haven't had very good luck with the re-man'd compressors. I think the new one was only $30 more.
warranty is nice but it doesn't cover refrigerant or labor, so if it craps out under warranty more than once it gets expensive and frustrating. |

I guess the only reason we use a reman because we have connections to a guy who remans for a good price. I dont like buying any remans from a parts house. Specially when it says Remanufactured in China
