Transmission cross member
My 66 panel has a aluminum T-10 transmission in it and as far as I can tell has never had a cross member. the motor has front and rear mounts but the trans just kinda hangs off the bell housing. It runs fine and I drove it real hard for years like this before this build with out breaking any thing and I was wondering....does it really need one? Or do the rear motor mounts make it unnessary?

Re: Transmission cross member
It doesn't need a transmission cross member. I asked the same question on "The Stovebolt" website shortly after I bought my '65; it has an aluminum Muncie 4 speed also.
I looked for my post on "The Stovebolt", can't find it, may be too old 'cause it was back in 2008. Basically there was input from a lot of guys running the same set-up we are. Some guys said they raced '57 Chevy cars that had this same set-up and never had a problem with breaking tranny housings or any other "mounting" related problems. Hope this helps! |
Re: Transmission cross member
Helps alot thanks. I figured if I didn't break or twist it before I was safe but I have lots more HP now and thought I ought to ask.
