Does anyone know where I would find the chassis number on my 1969 C10 SB?

If you are referring to the number that corresponds to the VIN, then it is typically on the frame next to the steering gear on the top.

but not all frames got stamped for some reason.

Yep, that is where mine was, but for some reason or other it disappeared with a piece of the frame before I bought it.

My frame does not have a number on the frame anywhere. It was built in Calif. Did Calif. truck frames have a number on the frame?

Thanks, I found mine under some grease and grime. Now I can stop looking but, I'm not sure what it tells me.

Lenny, The main thing it tells ya is whether or not your frame and cab were married at the assy plant.:lol: It's a partial vin. Check the frame # against the vin # and they should be the same except your vin # should have 4 more charaters in the middle.
As far as what they tell you, the first character tells chassis designation C=2wd K=4wd The second character tells engine designation E=v8 S=6cyl The 3rd character is a place marker, and it's probably a 1. The rest should be numbers and that is the vehicle or production number. That's on the frame.
On the vin on the driver door jamb the extra 4 characters tell GVW range, model type, model year and assy plant. Oh, and :welcome2: to the board. If you need help decoding your vin just holler.........

Thank you so much. I'm learning so much more on this project than the last. this truck was presented on eBay and it looked great. The seller didn't lie, but he stretched the truth so far it was rediculus. Upon digging into it I've learned the bed, doors, one fender, wheels, engine and other misc. items are all from different trucks. I knew the engine was going in since it was a 305. Then we found the serious cancer that was covered in plastic and painted over. The new floor that was a fiberglass patch, the new paint that was a Maaco paint job. I'm going to build it for a driver and move on.

My chassis actually has the number stamped in two places. At the front by the power steering pump area as already mentioned, and again further back under where the cab rests, near the rear cab mount area.

I'll look when we switch cabs. Good luck on yours. I know how it is with this one. My last one, a 1968 C10 was a Texas truck and didn't need nearly this much reconstruction. This one had so much mud packed in the upper A-Frame the openings were completely filled. While replacing the steering gear I took out a bolt and it pushed through with a piece of the frame attached to the bolt. Sigh...
