Re: lokar floor shifter which one
When I first built my truck about 20 years ago, Gennie Shifter didn’t offer an adjustable mounting bracket, so I bought a Lokar shifter instead. That stayed on my Turbo 350 for about 5 years. Attached are a few photos. Although the positive shift lock feature is nice, I hated the shifter almost from the beginning. The knob rattled constantly, and later the cable inside the handle rattled chronically, and in temperatures below zero, the grease would freeze rendering the button inoperable, leaving me without my daily driver. Every now and then, if not paying attention, depressing the button off center could also result in a painful split or folded back thumbnail.
By the time I had had enough, I was also tired of the long handle and Gennie now offered an adjustable mount. So I swapped to a 16” Gennie shifter instead. The locking detents on these are identical to a column shifter which I found more enjoyable for daily driving. Here are a couple shots of the mechanism installed: http://a.imageshack.us/img442/313/trans01.jpg http://a.imageshack.us/img195/1936/trans01a.jpg Here’s the finished installation: http://a.imageshack.us/img694/6241/trans01b.jpg Here’s what it looked like with a Gennie Shifter. I don’t have any better pictures of the Gennie installation. http://a.imageshack.us/img190/8094/trans01c.jpg The only downside to the Gennie shifter is their lousy distribution system. In researching where to buy one for a friend, Chevy of the 40's seemed to have best pricing. |
