Help me figure why my truck is starved for fuel

Just kidding. Even I figured this one:
WTF>>>tested it on the side of the road. Fuel going into filter... none coming out. Just when I thought I had addressed about everything on this hunk of steel. Well I thought the gas gauge has been playing games(no wonder with that float) so I took the sender off. THE HORROR!!! Sooo found a $35.00 pristine tank in pic-a-part. A new sender from Manes and presto, brought Ol' Bob back to life.
Observe the stuff that came out of the filter inlet.

hey what size line is it coming out of that??? My caddy engine is starving and I wasn't sure if I had to replace the lines or what ..it wouldn't make sence to me to upgrade the lines if the fuel sending unit is tiny?? mine is behind a tank panel so its a PIA to get a look at it?
