wheelbase ?
I need to know the wheelbase length and width for an '85 pick up. I have to go get a truck and need to find a trailer, tow dolly, or something.

the wheelbase on a LWB is 131.5" and a SWB is 117.5". the track width really doesn't matter . what you need is this .from tire bulge to bulge on my 2WD with 8" rallys and wide tires is appx. 77" you could squeeze about 2" off that number if you squeak it through the fenderwells of the trailer. You could also take stock skinny wheels and tires for another 2-3 " off. interesting how they added 4.5" to the lwb, and only 2.5" to the swb trucks after 72, hmm
Good luck, sub |
Thank you for the answer. It's a LWB with stock tires. Now I know what to look for.

Good luck on the dolly, you might end up renting either a trailer, or a tow bar.
I bought a tow bar from Wall-Mart to pull my '69 GMC from Texas to Ohio. Even though it says it's only good for 3000 pounds, it did the trick. Cost me 100 bucks, plus 30 for a light kit. |
I didn't know WalMart sold tow bars. I'll have to look into it. I used a U-haul tow bar about 20 yrs. ago, but I don't think they have them anymore.

U-Haul is the only mooving van company that has them, but you ned to try to reserve it like a month or so out.
The Wall Mart ones are by the R.V. stuff, I had to have the wall mart girl take me to it, not only was I not seeing the tow bar, but she was a hottie!! http://67-72chevytrucks.com/board/ubbhtml/wink.gif |
yeah if you go to u-haul then you might have to lie about what you are towing [weight wise] . A guy I know tried to buy/tow my Camaro and they wouldn't even let him because he had an Astro van LWB.it is iffy even with a 1/2 ton truck the way they figure things . I am sure it is another liabilty Deal ------- stinking insurance companies.

All U-Haul has to do is have you sign a form to release them from liability...and I think they DO have you sign.
Even so, they are kinda A-holes about tow vehicles. I'll tow a truck with a chevette. Why not, I towed an old '27 Chevelle wagon with one. ------------------ The hot rod; a'69 G.M.C. Short/Fleet. 350 W/a heluva cam and nice stance. Still a beater though. Trying to clean up the left over damage from the Dope-Smokin-Old-Man...a real bummer. See it at http://geocities.com/andys_69_gmc/ The not rod; old beat up Mighty Morphin Power Ranger. (that's the ONLY cool way to say pos Ford Ranger)only purchased it for the gas mileage. (at least it's a V-6) And now it's for sale...2500 bucks or trade for inline '67 - '72. I've been dubbed the Longhorn Freak/Fanatic/Expert, I just hope I can live up to it.
