Buddy bucket issue
 

This may belong in the Truck Audio section, but I wasnt sure because it pertains particulary to 67-72 year models with buddy buckets.

I am about to replace to old pioneer headunit in my truck, and would like to add a couple of speakers to my setup. I currently have 2 Memphis 6 inch speakers in my doors, but wanted to add a couple more speakers and at least use the other 2 channels on my radio.

My problem is this... I no longer have the dash speaker option, as that has been shaved. And I still have the gastank in my cab, so no room behind the seat. Has anyone been able to fit a coupleof 6x9s or something else under their buddy bucket seats? I was looking at the amount of room under there, and with the support bar as well as how low it it, Im not sure it is possible. Has anyone done this successfully?

I went out and measured for you. Then I took a pair of 6 X 9's and just barely slid them under the bar. You have exactly 4 1/2 in to play with. Once you get them past the bar you have plenty of room. Now if you really had some deep speakers suppose you could unbolt the BB's slide them under first. After your under the seat you have another inch maybe 1& 1 /2 more room to play with.

I'd hate to ruin that bottom box but maybe you could pull the center part out, fashion your own bottom box and add the seat cushions to it.

Do you want the speakers to fire to the front or down?

I may try and see if I can fit some of those angled 6x9 boxes under there if I unbolt the seat, slip them under, and bolt back down. If so, that will hold me over till I can remove the gas tank and put them in the rear properly.

well mine had a hole cut in the center console for a radio so thats my story i should work i would like to make my own speakerbox and put it under the seat

Well, here's an update. After searching around, I did find some 6x9 boxes that would fit, and fire the speaker toward the front instead of into the seat. They fit, but I did have to space the seat up some. I used some steel spaces an inch long that I got from Lowes, and they worked perfectly. I cant feel them under the seat when I sit down, and I only put spacer under the front of the seat... I have origional 67 buddy buckets that have been recovered, and anyone that has sat in them knows that there is very little adjustment in them. Just using the spacers in the front actually gave the seat a little lean to it, which I found more comfortable instead of the very straight up seating position they had before. With the added speakers and new headunit, I am more than pleased with the sound now. I may not have some big subs in there to rattle my bones, but I do actually have more bass output and a fuller sound. Just right for the 5 hour trip Im taking in it this weekend. If you can afford to go to the blazer tank setup you will have plenty of room behind the seats for speakers or whatever you wish.

I will try and take some pics this weekend. I would run a blazer tank, but thats where all of my tanks, compressors, and valves for my airride are. Not an option unless I want to completely replumb my system, and thats NOT happening lol. I am entertaining the idea of running a spun aluminum fuel tank in the rear either when I put fake wood floor in the bed, or maybe before. Probably will make that change when I repaint it though, so I can shave the old filler neck. Until then, Im good, at least until I decide I HAVE to have a sub in there too. Why does it just never seem to end?

Exactly! There's plenty of room when you ditch the factory tank.
