I picked up a few trucks about three months ago mainly because this truck had a fleetside bed on it.

The owher said it was a BB truck and I said sure, it had a 289 or 307 in it with what looked to be a 350.

Well I simply drug it to the farm and never checked the paperwork SPID or details.

Here is what I found out.

969
396
Red and white truck

Of course I cant make out all the items.

Side mounted spare... Was this thing a BB with a step bed?

There are some pretty interesting bastardizations that were done to this truck down the line.

The bed is a replacement as are both of the doors.

The sad thing is the cab is extreemly rusty... Good thing I have an AC cab 70 that just became a cab donor.

SOrry no photos of the actual truck I'm on my work computer and didnt take any today.

With so many parts gone is this truck worth the time and effort? It may be???

One thing is for sure, the truck or at least the glovebox door was from a swb Big block, fleet side truck. The modle # 10734 tells that it was a short fleet. So the side mounted spare was a spare mounted inside the bed instead of underneath the bed like most other fleet side trucks.

does the VIN # on the SPID(glove box door)match the VIN plate on the door jam. If so, then I would say it is worth the time and effort. If you restore it be sure to keep the original SPID intact.

I checked only the last four numbers and they matched. My memory could not keep them all in order.

How rare is someting like this? and how valuable?

Not very common, but not "rare" to speak of. As far as value, difficult to say. It would be nice to find a correct dated block. Did you ask the previous owner if he had any idea where the original block was?

Thanks for the info. I dont think this guy did the swap. He was collecting trucks to build one and like often happens lost intrest in them.

I'll do some thinking as I have way too many "projects" on my hands right now. Perhaps one of them will end up having to be let go of.. But I want to keep them all too. However reality is that time is limited and To make a living, keep the family happy, living at the farm rebuilding trucks is not always priority.

some pick from when I picked it up.

Today I relized that the bed and doors are not replacement just that the truck was painted some metalic bronze at one time over the factory Red and white before the white on it now.

I may just need to let this one go. Thinking........
