Need opinions
I want to break up the interior of my truck a bit. EVERYTHING is red and I am a little overwhelmed by it. I want to tone it down a bit. What do you think I should do for a secondary color and what would you change?
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/...15682f12e5.jpg The seat has the cover on it still its red vinyl underneath. I'm also going to have my headliner reupholstered sometime coming up. Thanks in advanced for all help in making this decision. |
Re: Need opinions
Looks good, even though I have never cared for red interiors. Maybe a black dash? If so, paint/dye the map pockets to match. Black carpet would look good too. Then you could paint/dye the door panels black, along with the headliner trim, and get a black seat cover. Yup, that would break up the red a little  In all seriousness, black carpet and maybe paint/dye the dash and map pockets.

x3. Red/Black is a nice, eye-appealing combo.

Re: Need opinions
A black dash would look better with the bezel and steering wheel.

Re: Need opinions
I would say Black Dash w/black seat cover or Black Dash w/ Black Carpet...
|
Re: Need opinions
I think all those sound great. I'd definately do something black on the door panels. Maybe tape off the area where the silver trim on the doors are (where the armrest, window crank, and door handle are). And paint the rest of the panel black. That'd look good!

Re: Need opinions
Thanks for the ideas guys, If the dash pad were cracked I'd be all over the dash pad replacement Idea but I can't bring myself to removing the original dash(thats right that is the original dash pad) what is everyone's opinion on throwing a dark gray carpet in and a matching headliner then get the seat redone with gray cloth and red vinyl trim and inlay.

Re: Need opinions
As much as I hate red interiors, yours is really nice. I would leave it alone, and I bet it will grow on you. My 79 had a red interior, and I actually grew to almost like it. What does the seat look like under the cover? If it is nice, get rid of the saddle blanket, and that will brighten up the interior a ton.

Re: Need opinions
@ Jonboy seat is Bright red like the rest of the interior. lol
|
Re: Need opinions
I would leave it alone. If you do repaint (with SEM, or similar paint) my experience is that the soft surfaces will be OK, but on the hard surfaces the paint will wear off if you scrape something against it (like your foot, seat belt buckle, etc.) A clean OEM red color is better than another color that is wearing off, needs to be touched up periodically. Most guys don't care about color much, only condition.

Re: Need opinions
ya I don't want to molest any of the interior pieces if anything I would replace with new and keep the old pieces in boxes with mothballs and wrapped in plastic being original parts as they are. I'm starting to envision black carpet a black and red seat and up in the air on the headliner

Re: Need opinions
hmm now that I'm thinking about maybe even just changing the color of the floor mats would help.go with black floor mats would break up the red take over.

Re: Need opinions

Re: Need opinions
na I know it looks good I'm just being taken over by too much red. Looking for something to help me keep my sanity.(like I still have that anyway) I think I may go by the store tonight and pickup some new floor mats and see what It does for me.

Re: Need opinions
black dash pad cover ?
|
Re: Need opinions
Thats what everyone keeps mentioning....its become impregnated in my mind now...I may just have to have two dash pads and depending on how I am feeling be able to switch them out lol. I just can't bring myself to dropping money on one when the one I have is in such amazing shape for an original.

Re: Need opinions
Mine was burgandy interior/red exterior originally.
I went back together with a black interior; I like it - I think it really "pops". Re: Need opinions
Keith what did you use on the floor? Is that a pre cut item or is that a custom job with a roll of the stuff?
|
Re: Need opinions
Maybe a black dash cover to prevent your dash from cracking.
|
Re: Need opinions
I like your thinking Chionos
|
Re: Need opinions
Well thats a first. We had a black one like this http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=104 used double sided tape instead of velcro. Now it has a carpet dash cover. My 82 is a red interior with a saddle blanket cover like yours and black rubber floor mats.
Also did you ditch the running boards?? That might help your interior  |
Re: Need opinions
i like the dash cover idea too. it would be a shame to still have the original dash pad in perfect condition and then have it start to crack
|
Re: Need opinions
no taping for me I would just lay it on and maybe sew some weights into the corners don't want to put any adhesive on the dash. I haven't ditched the running boards yet but will be in the near future as well as the obscenely large mud flaps.00

Re: Need opinions
The tape came off then I used goo be gone and you couldnt tell. Definitely need some way to keep it on the dash. I had one in my 86 fly off while I was doing 65 with the window down and it smacked my bro in the face
Its a good lookin truck btw |
