Re: frame question
Someone here is stuck in text message mode.
Are you talking about Short Wheel Base? Who said it wouldn't work? I think the truth to the matter here is - how much work are you willing to do? A person with a welder can do almost anything that they want to - as long as they know how to weld and machine. The answer probably is - because the SWB frame is too short. The distance between the front wheels and the rear wheels is longer and the truck arms might be mounted different if it has coil spring suspension and the overhang past the rear end might be longer - because the quarter panel is longer on the suburban / panel truck. The long wheel base uses a carrier bearing on the driveshaft and the short wheel base uses a one piece drive shaft and the loop for the carrier bearing is not installed on the short wheel base frame. Take your pick of answers. |

Re: frame question
uhm, regarding this:
"The long wheel base uses a carrier bearing on the driveshaft and the short wheel base uses a one piece drive shaft and the loop for the carrier bearing is not installed on the short wheel base frame." Not completely true, my 67 shorty has 2-piece drive with carrier bearing. And Tillman, short story, your burb has a wheelbase of 127"(not 133inches, dang beer..) while short bed trucks are 115". So it is not easy to do a frame swap without a lot of work on the frame (making it longer) or shortening your burb body. A truck (long bed) frame wheelbase is 127 inches, so you can start with a longbed truck frame and you will have to relocated body mounts and then modify the back end of the truck frame to work with the burb. |
Re: frame question
no.....133 inch wheelbase is the longhorn with the 8-1/2 foot bed. suburban has the 127 inch wheelbase just like the standard 8 foot long bed trucks (133in - 127in = 6in = 1/2 foot).
short bed and blazer have the same wheelbase but the rear body mounts are very likely different. |
Re: frame question
The 72 suburban 4wd frame that I put he panel body on has an original one piece driveshaft
