One reason folks don't do more of 'em is the shape of the frame rails. There's only a couple of inches worth of room for tubs. Mine is started but that's about as far as it's gotten with a lot of other projects in the way. I'm using a cab & chassis frame with 34" wide frame rails that are straight rather than the curved rails of most of this generation and will be using a 4-link setup.

I did a GOOGLE search and found a couple pics. I thought you could inboard the rear springs like on a 73-87 and make the wheel tubs wider, I'm very interested in more information.

The springs can be inboarded but since the frame rails aren't straight, it's a PITA. The frame is wider at the front of the wheel tubs than the back, only lets you tub a couple of inches. I wanted WIIIIDE steamrollers, so I went for the C&C. I found a second bed and a set of dually fenders in great shape, may end up going with a dually rearend with a pair of 10.5's on each side... The beauty of a truck is that if I set it up right, I can run single steamrollers or a pair of 10.5's, depending on what I want at the time. With a 4-link setup and an overhead sling in the shop, I should be able to swap rearends and beds in an hour or so.

Brownsville, do you have the paint code for your truck? I'm restoring a 89 and am looking for a good color and think I found it. plus now i wont have to redo my ENTIRE interior. that is one sweet looking truck.

My personal definition requires nothing less than a stroker...big block, that is. Anything under 496 cubes just doesn't cut it.
The "all show, no go" ain't my cup of tea. If it has steamrollers on the back, you need an engine that can light 'em up. Opinions and results may vary... |

I dont get the whole concept of "pro street", Lets shove a Huge ASS motor in something and then cut the car/truck up along with tubs and lose all street driving ability. ???? just don't get it.
I like my hot rods streetable and simple, that can straightin the curves and ALSO haul the mail down the 1/4. This 80's pro-street stuff is for the birds!! |
