homemade hinged bed board ideas?
I have a fuel cell under my bed floor and am in the process of making a new wood floor. I really dont want to cut a hole in the floor:waah:, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to hinge the bed board above the filler for my fuel cell. I have seen other people use a kit, but I've also heard it is expensive.
Any ideas on the "cheap"? Thanks |

Maybe some cabinet hinges with a magnetic catch. That just came to mind.

here's a link to the kit if anyone isn't sure what I'm talking about: http://www.classictrucks.com/tech/10.../photo_21.html
and here's an idea someone on another forum had: he used 2 gas door hinges off a Mercury Cougar and the electric release and a spring off a screen door |
Re: homemade hinged bed board ideas?
Well, I went to Lowes today and didn't see anything that would work very well. The problem with household hinges is that they have to be exposed (mounted externally) to open the board outward.
So, my idea is to cut a small door in the wood over the filler cap that works sort of like the kit, except it's just a small area of the wood that lifts on a small hinge vertically instead of the whole board lifting horizontally. I'll try it and let you all know. |

I was thinking of something like this, but after looking at the pic you posted the fuel door hinges might be the best option.
