Heck, that's what I thought it was all the time ;)

Is this a new problem? What changes have you made that the problem appeared after?

This sounds a bunch like fuel starvation. I'm looking for the fuel line from the pump to the carb - can you show a pic of how that's run?

What kind of fuel filter are you running?

Finally, we'll check the float level in the carb.

It'll get sorted out :)

Assume you have real fuel hose, not fuel injection hose, at the carb and tank?

To be sure I understand - the issue started only after you replaced the gas tank and pickup?

If it ran fine before then...and not after...then that's where we need to look.

Re: Motor help please!!!

if you take the gascap off after it happens and theres a big "whooshing" sound that means you have the whrong gascap and it is causing fuel starvation

that is alot easier to do than remove and rebuilding a carb

use common sence first it goes further than randomly throwing needless parts at things

Could also be fuel pump, you might want to check both carb and fuel pump.

What happens when it stalls out? Does it die on you or just stumbles and acts like its not getting any gas but still keeps going?

If it's the latter, it still sounds like it's fuel related. I'd check the float level and test the pump for fuel flow even though it's new. You could have fuel restriction in the tank or fuel lines. (With the fuel line removed from carb place in a plastic container and you should get app 1 pint in 30 seconds or less.)

Don't overlook the possibility of a rich condition also. Like a choke not opening properly or dumping too much fuel. You should see black smoke if this is the case.

You might be on the right track with fuel when iy stalls pop off air filter and look down the carb. and open throttle to if you get 2 squirts of fuel if you do check for spark with a screw driver and one spark plug wire needs someone to crack it over, first thing that came to mind is the dist. module HEI are know to fail I carry a spare. Good luck

cut the fuel filter open and see what it's clogged with// if you've got a rust crap clog you can bet in short order the carb will b clogged up good

Well, I can't tell which was which anymore, but

The first post was done at 12:57 with this text:

ok i got a '72 350 c.i. 4 bolt main starts and runs great. the problem is when i start to dive as soon as i get to 45 to 55mph it stalls out i think it might be a carb problem just not sure
The second one was done 10 minute later "somewhere else"

ok i got a '72 350c.i. 4-bolt main the thing starts and runs great the problem is when i get it up to 45 to 55 mph it stalls out and sometimes it won't start right up, but if i pull over and wait a minute or two it will start and run great but as soon as i get to 45 to 55 mph it stalls again.don't know where to start and hotroddin' ain't no fun sittin' around scrachin' my head!
They are obviously not "copies" of each other....

It's not that big of a deal....you didn't need to defend it. It was just a minor refresher of the rules. Many people just don't know.
