Couple of NP205 ?'s
Will a 205 from an 82 dodge bolt to an NV4500 from a 93 Chevy? I believe the bolt patterns are the same but are the splines?
Lastly, is there a non-electronic 4L80 trans that is capable of bolting to a 205 out of a 71 chevy? Basically just wondering if I could replace a TH350 with a 4L80 with the proper adapter whether from AA or whomever. Thanks guys |
Re: Couple of NP205 ?'s
I think the bolt pattern is the same, but you will need to change the input, and possibly bore the hole for the bigger bearing, depending what Dodge case you have. I'm pretty sure they used two different inputs, 23 and 29 spline. 23 will need to be bored, a 29 just an input swap.
Now the pattern might be 6 bolt round, but I don't think it will just bolt up. Going from driver drop to pass drop, the patterns are a mirror image of each other. But I think you can oblong 2 holes to get it to bolt up. There was never a non-computer controlled 4l80. Since 91 they are all computer controlled. Same problem with bolting a 205 onto the 4500. But a 205 from 71 will have the 8 track pattern, and if you have the t-case on the tranny, need a6 bolt. Basically you will need the same t-case that will bolt on the 4500 to work on the 4l80. |
Re: Couple of NP205 ?'s
Ok I just learned that the NV4500 will need to be rebuilt, so it could just have a dodge output shaft put in right?
Darn I was hoping I could try and put a good stout OD transmission in my dad's truck rather than putting a 700r4 in. It's got a little bit of horsepower and it would be cheaper to find a good 4L80 than have a 700r4 built to handle the power and abuse that it sometimes sees. Thanks for the info. |
Re: Couple of NP205 ?'s
I think you need a 94+ chevy NV4500 to be able to swap in a dodge main shaft due to the first gear ratios.

Well I was close.

Re: Couple of NP205 ?'s
AHH ok. Hmm I guess I'll just have to get the chevy 205 input shaft for the dodge one then. Unless there is another decent T-case that would work with the passenger side drop? Not really going to be doing any really abusive 4 wheeling with this rig so I can be flexible in that area. 33" tires at the biggest.
Ha I was just rummaging through a pick n pull down south a ways today and my friend and I found another NV 4500 in a 92 chevy! We ran to harbor freight a few miles away and got some cheap tools and an hour later had another NV with bellhousing for $150! Score! Maybe if this all goes well with the dodge t case and NV I could just turn my dad's auto into a manual. If this is all getting confusing I am working on putting the NV and Dodge case in a friends 71 K10, and just trying to find a suitable OD tranny for my dad's 71 K10 haha. Thanks again for the knowledge guys! |
