Questions about 2000 and up Suburbans?

Hey all, looking at a 2000 Suburban. 5.3 with 81,xxx 1 owner well maintained miles. In very good shape. Now, does the 5.3 have any issues? What needs to be done at 100,000? Will this truck tow a 24 ft RV occationally? Any help would be great. I'm used to the older stuff....;)

ANYBODY???????? I'm not familiar with the newer GM's. I've owned newer Honda's; and well, you just change the oil. We are selling one of the Honda's and buying a Suburban, because we had such a great trip in the 89 Sub I recently got. It needs too much to be the main family trip mobile, so we are looking at these 2000-2006 Suburbans and Yukons XL's. I've read all the old post's about anything and everything 5.3 and Suburbans. Still would like to hear your opinions on this one. David

if it has towing package i;d say yes it would tow it. at 100k you'd need tune up (plugs and wires) and change all fluids

The only issues that come to mind on this era of 5.3 are:

-possible coolant loss issues usually from bad water pump gaskets (the dealer will replace the pump also)
-knock sensor codes due to water getting into cavity where their located under upper intake (two new sensors, knock sensor harness and some silicone will usually fix this)
-possible lean codes from air leaks at the upper intake (usually a gasket issue)

All of these are generally "shade tree" repairable if you know your way anround an engine and utilize a service manual.

You bet it will tow that 24' travel trailer alright. That burb could have a tow rating of 8500#. Well more than that trailer weighs. Yukon XL's are niiiiiice.

The only thing I had trouble with on my 02 burb, is when the automatic leveling system went out, they wanted $1500 to fix it, I put on heavy duty shocks but it doesn't pull the same now

OK guys, Thanks for all the info. I bought it. Very, very pleased with it. I put it on a rack, very clean underneath. Not washed clean, but 81,000 miles not absued clean! Anyway, I'll be back on here with my questions. Please go easy on me  David

Congrats!

My 00 5.3 has 126K on it. I did plugs and wires @ 100K. That's it so far.
