Poly vs. Steel

A friend of mine has a '00 Chevy 1500, 2wd with front coils, He's was looking at getting some polyurethane 2" front spacers, but someone told him the poly ones wont last if you if you do any off-roading in them, which he plans to do. So my question is, first is this true? Anybody had any issues with the poly spacers? And if so where would you find some steel/aluminum ones? Seems like all I can find is poly. Thanks Yall!
