my 66 stepside project.......
 

the truck is home sitting in carport.has no engine so i cleaned out the engine bay.awaiting to paint.i picked up a used 350 4 bolt main that had previously been rebuilt.
casting number 10066036 hencho en mexico,under the one head id # m112191p.anyone know what year it is ? getting too much general info 1968 to 1988 ......


not to trust what a person says i ordered new gasket kit ,edelbrock valve covers.was a great deal.and in the process of looking for a edelbrock intake and a 600 cfm carb with manual choke.this is my want list.


took off the carb and intake uh oh water..... took off the heads there was a little water sitting on two lifters.could i just soak these in oil or should i replace.and water sitting in one of the cylinder.i will soak it in wd-40 and will try to free it.and wet sand 600 grt paper on the cylinder wall.hopefully this does the trick.other than that all the cylinder look good no ridges.just hoping there will be any pitting on the one cylinder wall.any input guys give me ideas as i"m pretty new at this.and haven"t done this to a engine in 20 years.i"m in the th low to no buck club.but will have a nice ride in the end.:chevy:

You have it torn down that much just pop the pistons out and do a good hone on the Cyl's. I wouldn't sand them just hone and see what it looks like after that. If it still looks pitted it time to get it bored...

If this is a Targetmaster/Mr. Goodwrench engine, I've always had to buy the oil pan gasket through a Chevy dealer, because they have provision for a dip stick tube on both sides of the engine (both sides of the pan have the clearance bump). I'm not aware of any aftermarket supplier that offers a pan gasket set for this configuration.

hoping that i will be able just hone the one cylinder and change the rings on the one pist.want to sand lightly the rust so i don't do any more damage.cross your fingers for me guys.

fill that cylinder up with marvel mystery oil and let it soak. most of that will probably wipe out.

how do the rest of the cylinders look? can you see cross hatch marks from honing on any of them or are they shinny? I would pop them all out and hone them all lightly if you don't see any cross hatch marks.

+1 on the marvel mystery oil or use diesel. I know a few people with old tractors that pour diesel in the cylinders and let them soak. My boss's son did this to a locked up tractor someone gave him. (gas tractor) he didnt even take the head off. filled the cylinder with diesel, got it free, put the spark plugs back in and it ran! burns no oil and runs like new. I wouldnt of believed it if i didnt see it.

Finally after six months of collecting parts my 66 stepside aka bella is back.will post some pics soon but here is where i"m at.block been hot tanked,bored 30 over,magna fluxed by the machine shop.the crank has be polished also sent the heads out to be resurfaced and ground.good thing had 8 bad valves.Installed new pistons,bearings,new melling camshaft.new high volume pump,timing chain and pan,timing cover,balancer are installed.will up load some pictures in the next few days.Oh i forgot to mention in my collection of parts i bought a performer edelbrock intake and a 600 cfm with electric choke edelbrock carb.it is from a local guy all rebuilt and tuned and tested.
