Back after a leave of absence

Well its been a fairly long time since I have posted on here but I'm back in the Chevy world with a new project. Its been too long since I have had a real truck on the road and some changes in my life have left me needing a hauler. Last night picked up a 1968 c30 flatbed dually with the original 307 that I found on craigslist, not sure of its history, my guess is it was used for the forest service by the special order green paint in the cab. The cab is is rusted in all the usual places, its a base model truck but she runs and made the 45 mile trip home without a problem after the flatbed I had lined up bailed. The only plans I have for it right now are getting the lighting rewired and a tune up, eventually my plans are a Cummins swap with a NV4500, disk brakes, all the rust repairs (probably at the same time as the Cummins so I can clearance the firewall at the same time) and find a way to get rid of the split rims. I'll try to get some more pics once i find the charging cable for my camera.

I'd drive it.....

Won't the newer 8-lug wheels bolt on? There has to be a ton of them. Add some stainless steel dress-up covers to them and go do some stylin'.

The split rims aren't a real concern at the moment because the 6 on the ground are almost new, once those start to go I'll find a set of the newer dually wheels, hopefully still attached to the front suspension of a mid 80's dually with disks. Heres some more pics

Nice truck, I love these old duallies.

Also that is probably the least dirty/greasy rear axle on one of these trucks I've ever seen.

The pix of the truck alongside the building, with the nice blue sky for a backdrop, really makes me miss being out west. Nice effects....

Thank you all, there's something about that building that makes a good backdrop :)

That sounds like a good plan, I cant see how any of the new trucks can hold up to the abuse these old ones will take. The 1 tons at least around here arent very popular so you can usually get them cheep:metal: I paid 1000 for this one. :D I have been debating on using a TBI 350 and nv4500 that I picked up in this one but for towing I want a diesel so that drive train is probably still going into my 70 GMC. For now the 307 will do everything I need it for. I bought this one planing on just using it as is and not really doing much to it but the more I think the more I want to do to it.

Looks like a great start for a tow rig, I sure wish I had a flat bed dually for a tow rig, keep us informed on this one.
