Re: 1972 chevy crew cab

They were built by aftermarket companies, not by GM. They could be purchased by anyone, but you find them more commonly having been owned by railroads and logging companies.
I think one of the comanies was called Scot-Built or something like that. A couple board members have some original sales literature, hopefully someone else will chime in.

Thats a pretty cool ride. Most I've seen were 4 x 4's or 3/4 tons like the one I found here in Austin.....

I think if you search my old post you will see links to the scott-bilt information.

Nice ride, would love to see what you do with it.

THe guy with this one was told by someone at GM that this truck was a railroad truck and only 57 of them were made.

Yeah i read all the threads i could find on it. Got a little more info on it. It's not in real bad shape and it runs great. It will still be the biggest project i've taken on. Fortunately
i have some family members with the skills to help out. My father inlaw is finishing up a 71 4x4 right now, i'll get some pics for you all.

Re: 1972 chevy crew cab

As has been said before, GM never did build crew cabs out of the 67-72s. Any that were made were contracted out to coachbuilders around the country for rail and lumber crews mostly. I don't doubt that the military might have had a couple.

Obviously, being built aftermarket, there are a bunch of variations of the crew cab theme. The Pacific Coach (Portland) conversion is my personal favorite, a shortbed lwb truck:

I will add this to my needs list for the C40,50 or 60 project that I have on the back burner. The crew cab would be too cool with all of the other plans I have.
