Steering wheel/Horn question

Quick question on replacing the steering wheel and horn in my truck, its an 87. When i was moving it with out the motor the splines on the steering wheel stripped out while i was trying to move it and ripped out the horn contact spring and the plastic piece that sticks up from the cancel cam.

My question is how do I replace this? There is what looks to be a black plastic dust cover that I can't seem to remove. I searched and looked at the pictures here on the forum and couldn't seem to find anything. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Anthony

Your talking about the big black plastic cover right underneath the steering wheel right? It should just pop off, take a small flat head screwdriver and pop it off like the top of a paint can. But your going to need something to compress all the stuff in the rest of the column to get the little retainer clip out, after you get the black plastic piece out.

Yep thats the one. It almost looks like it should twist off, but I couldnt get it to budge. I also didn't want to break it by being to rough with it, thats what got me into this situation to begin with!!

If your talking about the clip that holds the silver circle piece with all the holes on the outside of it, yeah you need a steering wheel compressor, and then I use a small screw driver to pop the little circle piece out.

What you need is a Steering wheel lock plate remover. Trust me, it will make your job A LOT easier when using it. You can probably even borrow it from Autozone. I bought mine for like $20 or so from Autozone and it looks like this. I hope this helps:
