Lift Kit Questions
I know this is more of an opinion but I've been looking and need a little help.
I'm planning on doing a lift on my 89 K5 and I want to know which is the best kit. I'm looking for a more streetable kit as I won't be doing too much off-road, more of looks. I'll probably tow my car to the track or a boat a little later on, but looking for more of a comfortable ride. I know that it won't be stock because of the changes, but what would you suggest? I want Leaf Springs in the rear not blocks or add-a-leafs. Dual steering stabilizer and a decent ride. I've looked at all the kits on rockymountainsusp.com and say that the 6" Kits clear 37's. I thought that 6" would only clear 35's? or does it depend on the kit? Also which upgrades would you suggest at the same time? Thanks Matt |
Re: Lift Kit Questions
2.5" and some trimming clear 35's just fine.....why do you want to be that tall to tow with? you'll need to re-gear it, address steering and braking too. you'll most likely want a semi floating 14 bolt to tow with also. with that tranny 4.56 gears would probably be a good "decent" stocklike ratio depending on the weight of your loaded trailer and terrain.
i'm going with 3" tuff country springs, good shocks and 33's to keep it simple, i have 3.73's...but i'm not towing. the closer to stock you stay the easier and cheaper it'll be. |
Re: Lift Kit Questions
check out off road design, running a shackle flip in the rear with stock springs is suppose to ride better than just a spring lift. i have also heard good things about EZ rides (tuff country I think) for the front.

Re: Lift Kit Questions
My main goal isn't to tow, more of a looks mod than anything. But 4-6" will be good for me. and I currently have 3.73's in my rear now because I replaced the rear after it went bad on me a few years ago. My tires are 31/10.50's currently though

Re: Lift Kit Questions
unless you have a lot of HP/torque, you will hate 3.73s with 35s. I would suggest at least a 4.10 gear.
