Re: identifying block year

thanks for the information.thats a little more than i have been finding on the web.i"ve been getting all the way to 1994 .i guess there is no way to get the exact year the engine was produced.the reason i ask is to get parts one of queastions is it a two piece rear seal opposed to a one piece.i"m ordering the rebuild kit from nothern auto parts.the part person said there are different size oil rings on the piston.i"m in british columbia so i have to get them shipped and hop across to blaine washington to pick them up.kit in the states 106 buck kit here 300.

Your head appears to have a casting date, but the pic is too fuzzy for me to read it. Please post what it says on the head.

Re: identifying block year

Sorry, that's probably a Julian date - so no help on the year. Those heads were originally used 72-73 and later on the crate engines forever.

Re: identifying block year

If it's an '89 block, that would be a 1 piece rear main.

blackdawg.....Can we see a pic of the rear of the block where the crank sits?

Re: identifying block year

so that makes it a 1976-to 1988 block 4 bolt main 2 piece rear seal.

Re: identifying block year

The last year for the 2 piece rear main seal in a production engine was 1985. I don't know if the Goodwrench engines kept the 2 piece longer or not.....it's possible.
