4" or 6"
 

Hey guys, i'm new to this forum. I got a 79 Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton. Bought it for 900 bucks. Its got a rebuilt motor and Tranny and runs great. Has a few rust spots and there is holes in the bed. Anyways I was wondering of what size lift I should go with.. This is a Daily Driver. and I just want to have some fun every once in a while. I'm stuck between the Rough Country 4" lift or 6" lift.

Can I see some comparisons?

i bought a 4 inch from rough country, but i think they sent me a six inch lift, but here are some pics before and after. i had 31 10.50 15's in it when i first bought it then i got 35 12.50 15, it really depends what size tires your going to be running...and i paid 500 bucks for mine:metal:

I used to have a 79 Blazer with a 4" Rancho lift and 33"BFGs. I later put 36" Swampers and and a 3" body lift that was "necessary" to clear the new tires. It looked great, was a blast to drive, and it was my daily driver.

I have to admit that I really missed the 4" lift and 33s. I'll admit I was a little obsessed with going taller, but in the end, I really wish I would have kept the 4" lift and 33s, especially since it was mainly a pavement pounder. Getting in and out of the truck constantly became a pain (even ripped a pair of work slacks once), larger wheels and tires taxed the braking system much more, etc.

6" lift looks great, but I don't think you can go wrong with a 4" lift. Head on over to ColoradoK5.com and you'll see photos of different lift/tire combos.

dont get rough country. Get tuff country EZ rides. If your gonna have a big winch up front, get the heavy dutys. Unless you dont care about ride quality.


And the best lift for the rear is a shackle flip. Check out www.diy4x.com for their flip n switch rear hanger. Nets you 4" inches of lift +/- with the 4.5" shackle.


I like 35's with 4", 37's with 6".

id use the tuff country 495ers if you go with the 4" lift. You can always take a leaf out if you think it rides too rough, but with the extra weight it will help prevent sag up front.

IMO 6inch lift. you will kick yourself in a couple years if you go with a 4 inch lift.

tuffs 6" as reported by summit are supposed to be 465 so should be good enough for ya. Im debating what to do with my k5 right now. Only got 32s for now so i think i may just leave it stock height till its time to buy tires.6" and 37s look mean..
