inline 6 swap to SBC350
A buddy of mine has a 64 chevy truck with a stock 350. He wants to swap his 350 for my inline six in my 69SWB. My biggest questions are will the engine mounts be located on the same location for both engines? does the cross member have the same location? Both trucks are standard so from the trans back, will anything change? I haven't started measuring yet but want to get an idea of the issues I will come up against.

Re: inline 6 swap to SBC350
I believe engine mounts will need to be moved forward. It's easy to move them, but they are not in the same place. The transmission crossmember location might need to be moved, but I think it depends more on the type of transmission you have. You may or may not need to change the driveline out for one of different length. Someone will chime in to offer more details.

Easy swap...You can install the 350 on the 6cyl. mounts without moving them. In doing so the transmission will stay in the same place. This will save the issues of finding another driveshaft. My motor is set up this way and no problem with clearance even running a HEI ignition. Good Luck on the swap!

I fact I dug around my shop looking for 6 cyl mounts so I could do this. Gets all the motor behind the front wheels for better weight transfer.

Thanks for the confirmations and WTRoadrunner, your engine bay is awesome. My brother has a 71GMC with a 402 and his is slightly forward but if I can fit without hitting the firewall and avoid buying a new DS, then its all good.
thanks again for everyones support. |
