rust repair
I've got an 86 chevy silverado that has some rust on the lower cab corners. I don't know how to weld. I considered finding a local body shop to replace the cab corners. I was curious, what's a rough estimate on what I'm looking to spend to have the cab corners replaced for both sides and then primered?

Re: rust repair
theres alot of what ifs in there. Do you know if the inner cab corner is good or not? Will you insist on welding or will you allow them to adhesieve bond them?
I was told 2-3 hours per side for outers |
Re: rust repair
If you take the truck to them without the bed on it, it'll save you. With these things getting to be classics/antiques or whatever, book time sorta gets tossed out the window a lot of times. Putting the lower corners in with the bed already off, I can see them charging at least 3 hours per side, if not closer to 5 hours per side. You gotta remember they'd be working with aftermarket panels and putting them in where there is not a factory seam.
But I think you can also find a shop that is willing and maybe a tad hungry and get both done for 6-8 hours easy. If you leave the bed on though, they might charge a few more hours, especially if they have to deal with rusty bolts. |
Re: rust repair
From what I can see it looks like it's just the outer cab corner. I thought the pass. side was rusted too but it looks like jus tthe drivers side is the one with rust. I planned on taking the bed off before I took it to a shop to save money.
