Where to look for a 47-53 truck?
 
Hey guys,
Been lurking here for a few weeks now.. ok, several months.

Im looking for a project truck, but i cant seem to find any in my area... Ive tried craigslist, ebay, local classifieds, but im just not scoring anything.
where are you guys finding your trucks?

I'm not looking for much, just a 47-53 chevy with the body in reasonable condition.. i dont care about the engine/trans/chassis, etc... just a reasonably straight body.

Do you guys have any tips on where to find these things?

Look over your shoulder. They are everywhere. Here are some close to you.

Take your time looking. If you are patient the right truck will find you. If you do not know all you should about these trucks then take someone with you who does. It could save you from making a mistake. Sometimes these trucks are too far gone to save. If your state requires a title then make sure you get one at the time of purchase. Getting a title after the fact can be problem.

Have you tried Search Tempest? www.searchtempest.com
It interfaces to Craigslist where you specify your zipcode and how many miles.
I use a search string like: '48|49|50|51|52|53|54|55|56|57|58 chevy truck' with the 'Sales/Wanted' 'Cars & Trucks - all' checked.

Try the Atlanta CL. You aren't that far and there's is usually a good selection of them advertised.

As you can see from my build, most of the AD trucks located in the south are rusted in the low cab area. Don't let that turn you away. All of the replacement panels are now available for the AD trucks and they are good quality parts. A lot of the low country farmers used AD trucks and I would think some are still around in barns. Good luck hunting.

Try www.craigslook.com and it will check every craigslist in the country for whatever your looking for.

Another great search for the entire craigslist is " www.allofcraigs.com " I use it all the time, just bought a 1950 chevy suburban from colorado. Great deals out there sometimes just a few miles from home

The big trucks run the same cabs so you could get a front clip to go on a 1 1/2-2 ton cab without much trouble. Many times they are in better shape because they aren't subject to as much abuse. Or maybe just not as OFTEN!
