ebay heads?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-C...Q5fAccessories What do you think?

Re: ebay heads?
Someone on here might know of them. But at least Patriot gives you flow numbers and are at a decent price.

Re: ebay heads?
I dont no much about about heads and stuff but it says it can go up to .600 lift does that mean i can get a cam with .600 intake lift? i kinda have my eye on this cam http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...csid=1259&sb=0

Re: ebay heads?
Yeah and for that price you could go (dare I say it) Pro Comp Aluminum heads.
And yes I would have to agree that the Patriot or other name brands would be a better heads than what these are. |
Re: ebay heads?
Ok sounds good i think ima go with these unless they are to big? and what is the combustion chamber what is the difference between 64cc and 72cc?

Re: ebay heads?
All things being equal a smaller chamber is better. For a given piston the smaller chamber will increase compression ratio. Most piston mfgrs wil give you compression ratios for both chamber sizes

Re: ebay heads?
I agree.....I wouldn't pay that for iron heads when you can get aluminum heads for the same price or a little more depending on brand. Do a ebay search on sbc aluminum heads...

Re: ebay heads?
Well you guys no alot more about this stuff than i do so im trying to get about 400-450 hp with just changing the cam and heads my budget is about 1000. Right now i have a 355 with flat top pistons not sure what kind they have two valve reliefs a r/v cam and stock heads. If you guy could give me some ideas i would appreciate it.

Re: ebay heads?
I don't think you're going to be able to get 400-450hp for $1000 without adding some N2O.....even then.
|
Re: ebay heads?
for 400hp you can get a set of vortec heads and a cam and be just under $1000. 450hp, not likely. it would be better to spend the grand on a good set of heads and get the cam later, or save a little more and get a great set of heads for another 400 or so. I got my AFR 195cc heads from summit for 1400. Those heads with a flat tappet cam on a 355 will make 440 hp. 480 in a 383.

I'll bet those suckers flow great. Never heard a bad word spoken about AFR heads. |
Re: ebay heads?
.490. Here is the link from Summit: CompCams XE274H, as shown in the August 2010 issue of Super Chevy. The 355 made 441hp @ 5900 and 438lb-ft @ 4500. The 383 (which I'm building) made 480hp @ 5700 and 495lb-ft @ 4300.
The 355 had flat tops with 2 valve reliefs and 10.2 compression. The 383 was -9.8cc dished with the same compression. |
Re: ebay heads?
There was another 383 I was considering that was built up a few years ago that used powerhouse heads that made 425, so figure 385 or so on a 355 engine. Google Shoe String Stroker and you will find it on their website.
I ultimately went with AFR even though my cam isn't all that big because I can upgrade the cam later if desired and I know the heads will support it. |

Those patriot heads are good BUT you need at least a 400+ inch engine because the 2.08 valve isnt going to flow as good as a smaller valve in a 350+ will. Its called valve shrouding. Patriot makes an excellent steel head (vortec) that I bought and they were 485 shipped without springs and keepers. In my opinion I think a 2.08 valve on a street 383 is too big and the runner volumn is going to kill low end. Heres my head numbers

Re: ebay heads?
just for comparison, here is the flow numbers for the AFR 195cc Eliminator head which has 2.05" intakes. The AFR comp head has 2.08.

Re: ebay heads?
Buy them and find a big ditch and throw them!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: ebay heads?
Also, don't just look at airflow. You need to look at air flow, valve diameter, and runner size. Too big of a valve and runner will slow the speed of the air down, resulting in less cyl fill (meaning less power)..

Re: ebay heads?
ok thanks

Re: ebay heads?
