for all you guys wishing you had a different lug pattern

took me an hour and a half to do in shop on one of the bridgeport mills.

indicated the the center of the the bearing race in the center of rotor, popped the old studs out. drilled and spotfaced new holes. the new bolt circle is within .0005 of being perfect with the hub. so my wheel will be rolling nice and smooth down the road.

and yes i know they arent centered in between the previous holes, because theres a gusset there, you can see in the picture.

i changes them from 5x5 to 5x4.75

Well done. Looks great.

That is exactly how we changed the bolt pattern on our '63 Tempest (went from the production 4.5" to a more typical 4.75"), except that we "spotted" through an existing A body drum to mark the locations.

Re: for all you guys wishing you had a different lug pattern

thanks guys, i dont need to do that for my rear, mines narrowed with custom moser axles. the only thing i might to is drill them to 5/8 for 5/8 studs for racing.

well i got just fresh rotors, and the chances of finding a 73 van with decent rotors seems pretty rare to me.

I think what he was getting at is that you just bought new rotors for your truck. You could have bought new rotors for a 73 chevy van instead and not had to drill your new rotors.

Not true.
The 71-74 G10 vans all had 5x4.75. The 71 & later G20 vans had 5x5.
Late 74,early 75 is when the G10 vans started using the 5x5 pattern.
I have done extensive research on this & the bearings are different between the two patterns. How did you put them on your truck?
Thanks for any info. Brad

Re: for all you guys wishing you had a different lug pattern

I too have been doing some research...it seems the 5x4.75 van rotors are 1'" thick but use the same bearings as the heavier 1.25" truck rotors. So if you have the 1.25" rotors in theory you could swap to the van rotors, but I'm not sure how the 1.25" calipers will work with the narrower van rotors, or if you could use the 1' truck calipers with the 1.25" spindles....
has anyone actually done the swap?

Thank you. They are a pretty crazy little car, with the MOPAR bolt pattern, LH threads on the left side of the car, and the trans/transaxle in back.

Lots of fun, though -

Re: for all you guys wishing you had a different lug pattern

Yea im not sure which years but some caprices with 10 bolts late 70s thru early 80s, you can pull the axles and brake hardware from to complete it on the back for cheap. The site is on my favs someplace but a guy in washington state did it to his longbed to run camaro rallies. Ill try and find it and post it up.

Yep - 5 hole, 4.5" bc.

That tripped 'em up back in the day, when they were trying to put their hot new tires and wheels on....

Dad was saying WTH? :confused::confused:

That was after you managed to get the lug nuts loose...

(lol)
