Floor Sealer???
2 Attachment(s)
So I am working on my truck and I ripped out the carpet and found some patch panels and some light rust. What would you guys recommend I use to prep/seal the floor prior to installing any type of flooring.

get rid of the rust, and undercoat the crap out of it.

Re: Floor Sealer???
Undercoating works great for interior BUT...
1. It's time intensive to do it righ mask everything and make sure drain holes are not plugged. 2. Multiple coats need to be applied. 3. Just not sure of the curing time. I've seen undercoating 10 years old and still be soft. |
Re: Floor Sealer???
i used this stuff, easy to spray on, and dried quick. i know it's not the "good stuff" but it worked for me. and you can buy it at many auto parts stores

Oh, I've used that stuff. I was thinking of the actual professional undercoating. My bad.

Re: Floor Sealer???
"Rubberized" undercoating never gets hard, it always stays soft/rubbery feeling. It works better for deflecting undercarriage debris this way.

Re: Floor Sealer???
My first four years at the dealership, my job was undercoating the new vehicles that were sold. It's the reason I was wondering about the cure time.

Re: Floor Sealer???
I bet that was a somewhat nasty job nbpro! If I did that every day I think I'd either wear long sleeves no matter what, or a paint suit, or shave all my body hair.

Re: Floor Sealer???
The rustoleum stuff looks like it might be a winner. For those of you who have used it, will it fill in small gaps and little pinhole rust spots, is it thicker than plain old paint?

It stays kind of bumpy looking when it is dry.... it looks like, well, undercoating. I would suggest using tape on the other side of the panel to cover the hole, then spray the undercoating, then remove the tape after the undercoating dries. Should work great if you are just talking pinholes! Hope that helps. |
Re: Floor Sealer???
