engine swap advice
i've been using my 86 swb 350 with 700r as a daily driver and for work for about a year now. I work construction and i.m required to travel alot. I've been thinkin about swapping the motor to something a lil more fuel efficient, but really don't know what i should be looking for. I found a 2008 v6 motor and tranny for less than half of what my truck cost me and i'm wondering if its possible or if i would be in over my head? Is their a better option that would be plug and play? Lol. Any advice would help , thanks.

Re: engine swap advice
better option is do what I did and buy an 89 accord for $750 get 30mpg all day long and drive the truck on the weekends when I don't care about gas.
You will probably have more money in that swap by the time you are done with it than you will save over the course of several years. |
Re: engine swap advice
There is no way to swap a motor efficient enough to justify the expense. If that's all you are after, either buy a beater that gets good MPG or work to improve what you have.
A good tune on the truck and carb will help. Take a look at what gears you are running since you have an OD tranny. You should be able to pull 17 MPG average. |
