engine swap advice

i've been using my 86 swb 350 with 700r as a daily driver and for work for about a year now. I work construction and i.m required to travel alot. I've been thinkin about swapping the motor to something a lil more fuel efficient, but really don't know what i should be looking for. I found a 2008 v6 motor and tranny for less than half of what my truck cost me and i'm wondering if its possible or if i would be in over my head? Is their a better option that would be plug and play? Lol. Any advice would help , thanks.

better option is do what I did and buy an 89 accord for $750 get 30mpg all day long and drive the truck on the weekends when I don't care about gas.

You will probably have more money in that swap by the time you are done with it than you will save over the course of several years.

There is no way to swap a motor efficient enough to justify the expense. If that's all you are after, either buy a beater that gets good MPG or work to improve what you have.

A good tune on the truck and carb will help. Take a look at what gears you are running since you have an OD tranny. You should be able to pull 17 MPG average.
