How big is my gas tank?
I have an all stock 85' lwb, my gas gage isn't working right, and I'm wanting to keep track of my mileage before I run it out of gas. Also since I'm on the subject, I'm getting about 12 miles to the gallon with the old 305, is there much improvement there?

Re: How big is my gas tank?
It will either be a 16 or a 20 gallon tank. As far as the MPG... I was only getting 16mpg out of my 87 GMC with a TBI 305 and 700R4 (Overdrive trans).
Per LMC the shortbed had the 16 gal and the longbed had the 20 gal. Though it has been awhile since I have looked at my 82 I believe it had dual 16 gal tanks and it was a longbed, I think my 87 GMC was the same way. |
Re: How big is my gas tank?
x2 on the tank options, but yea these things are not built for mileage, i would suggest a tune up spark plugs, wires, cap&rotor, oil change, air up all the tires, and most importantly your driving style has the most to do with it imo.

Re: How big is my gas tank?
14x42.25x11 is 16 gallon, 14x56x11 is 20 gallon. A 20 gallon tank on a LWB would go a lot closer to the rear wheel opening in the bedside. A 16 gallon on a LWB has a lot of room between the end of the tank and the wheel opening.

Re: How big is my gas tank?
Looks like I'll be playing it sake and filling up every 150 miles. Mine has no overdrive, so I guess I'm just about right.
I really just need to get the gas gage fixed, I'm too lazy to have to keep track this way  |
Re: How big is my gas tank?
