looking for a thread on easy off
i've seen a really good thread on removing the coating and polishing the stainless trim and grill. can someone post a link. can't find it through search.

Re: looking for a thread on easy off
easy off is used on aluminum trim, not stainless ... it's used to remove the anodizing so the underlying aluminum can be polished.

Here's one I had saved because it was good. Not sure if it's the one you want. There have been several.

I spoke with a person who restores aluminum trim near here and asked about the use of EZ-Off and he said he uses it. The trim that he had restored was beautiful. Later, I spoke to a guy about him restoring my '69 grille. After he said it would be in the $450-500 range, I decided to try it myself. I bought a wheel polishing kit from Sherwin-Williams, which has an air-driven tool to mount different buffing tools. It also has some polishing compounds, but I bought some Tripoli at a swap meet.
Reading on the attachment and seeing the pics helps with knowing what tools to use to remove the dents and dings. Here's a pic of an El Camino from Dallas, that the owner did. The trim is all aluminum, and is the original trim on it. However, his treatment of the aluminum is to make it look like brushed stainless. When he told me it was 2 years since it was done, I was amazed. |
