Hey guys I got hopefully one heck of a deal. I found a 1981 GMC Sierra Stepside on craigslist http://lawton.craigslist.org/cto/1926292525.html and got the dude to come down to 500 dollars cuz he had to pay off loan. N E ways. In there it says its pretty rare, and from the info I have found (none) it seems there are less GMC versions of this truck? Anyway the engine is perfect condition literally seems to be very new and very very strong running. Drove it back from oklahoma with no problems. the interior has the usual rust from what i found out and have already ordered the floor pans rocker panels and cab corners. The things i need help with besides just basic info on the truck are. The guy before me took the dash out completely COMPLETELY no gauges no knobs(except lights n wipers) no intrsument panel nothing. just wires and metal. What do i do !?? all i have found are like dash covers will this fit over the metal? I also mailed teh Stitch guy on here as to his dash stitchings deal. The interior needs pretty much all Stitched Up so looking forward to talking to you :) And i Need a new wood bed all there is back there is metall bars. So i need Both wood and chrome bars for it. Sorry i have so much writing here I just been waiting like a week to post this lol. I have a body guy starting on the sanding/painting process hes reworking it completely.. I am going with Plum Crazy Purple 10 (with a few special pearls in it via my choice) and my girl wants to access the interior with pearl white. I want to do a flip kit and lower it 4/6 i think I have 22' Giovannis on order for it with dust covers. anyways i'm gonna shut up for now and let this get some replies first :)

So questions comments ideas (place where a newb like me can get a lowering thing done for cheap) :) YAY :)

Thanks man ! I know its probably a sin since its a chyrsler color, BUT i spiced it up with a few extra pearls so its no exactly the same. Its a freaking crazy color. I've always been a fan of the Old Cuda's and that was my favorite color so when they freaked it out for 2010 and brought it up to snuff i knew that was going to be the color or close, u know cuz i don't want everyone copying me :). I CANT WAIT ! I'll try to get some pics of the NO DASHBOARD and sweet rust/brown interrior with the torn up seat. and NO BED ! lol

I'd start at your local junkyard for all the interior / gauge cluster parts.

thanks got the pm's and help :) I think I'm gonna try to use stitch for all the interior and kmax for the bed parts. Does anybody have any idea about the rarity of a gmc stepper instead of a chevy. Are they just as common cuz i have tried and can't find hardly any and none of my particular year. I know they exist but are they just harder to find GMC style?

I dont think it is all that "rare", unusual maybe, GMC's just werent as popular with the cool kids back in the 70's and 80's. They were a little more expensive and the dealers didnt deal quite as well as the Chevy dealers or F@rd dealers. Whne I was in HS one of my friends had an 82 GMC, it was brown and tan ZY5 paint scheme, cool in the day.

Re: 1981 GMC Sierra Stepside. New Here and to this :) Info please.

yeah this one had that paint scheme originally

one word of advice invest in a good respirator and wear it while doing any type of body work sanding or otherwise good luck looks like its going good

Re: 1981 GMC Sierra Stepside. New Here and to this :) Info please.

I wouldn't say GMC's were rare at all. Less common but that is because you could get the same thing in a chevy for less $$. I like the look of a chevy grille better most times but since parts interchange easily its a matter of choice. Looks like you got a nice little project going there, Keep up the good work and keep us posted.
