Question about a 5.3 LM7 in a crew cab dually?
I'm kinda new to the dually scene. I was wondering if a lm7 5.3 w/ a 4l60e would be enough power for 2wd crew cab dually. It's gonna be for cruising and hauling light loads. I'd plan on swapping in a bigger cam, headers, exhaust and intake. The reason I ask is because this what I have in my 2001 z71 and I love it. Has 220,000miles on it and still runs perfect. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Question about a 5.3 LM7 in a crew cab dually?
I think a 6.0 might be a better choice, with a 4L80E. I was looking into swapping a 700R4 into my dually, and everyone I talked to advised me against it. I know the 80 zaps a little more power than a 60, so you might as well add the displacement while you are there.

Re: Question about a 5.3 LM7 in a crew cab dually?
Thanks for the reply. That would definitely be another option. Just noticed how cheap the lm7's are so I thought I would go that way. That being said, the 6.0 aren't really that expensive either. Know the 4L80's are more expensive than the 4L60's though. Has anyone on the board swapped a lq4 or lq9 into a crewcab dually?

Think of it this way - a stock 5.3L has more power than anything that could ever came factory in your truck - even the 454.

The 454 in my old '79 was such a pig. I think that year was only 205? horsepower. The 242 inline 6 in my Jeep can beat that. |

A 5.3 with no emissions and a tune will work great for cruisin and haulin light loads. They are awesome engines and you just cant beat them with a stick. I say go for it!

a carb 454 is rated at 230hp and 380 pound feet of torque and i think the tbi ones made 240hp.

Re: Question about a 5.3 LM7 in a crew cab dually?
Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. I looked up the horsepower and torque rating for an 01 lm7. Said it was 285hp/325tq. So if I added full exhaust, cam, and air intake. I'd probably be looking at 330hp/375tq. With a good tune maybe more. I really want to go with this engine since the biggest thing I'll be hauling is a spray rig that weighs about 2500 pds. So what would be a good cam to go for this setup? definitely want to increase my torque as much as I can without affecting driveability. Want it to run like a stocker.
