86-up 14 bolt FF drums slip off ?

i have been told that 86-up 10.5" 14 bolt FF brake drums slip off over the hub and are not under the axle flanges like the previous years, is this true ?

I don't think so. Or maybe I am not sure. My 14FF came out of a 86 one ton. The drum assembly comes off by me unbolting and removing the axle shafts and removing the retaining lock nut. Than the whole drum assembly slips right off the axle flange.
I know that Chevy made a 14 bolt that was is a semi floating. That drum comes off as easy as taking off a tire. Hope this Helps.. Rock on people!!!!!!

reason I ask is because i saw an ad for disc brake kits for 14 bolt axles and for the 10.5" full floaters it had an applicqation for the full floating axles 86 up that have slip off drums.

wierd...

Think it was a little later than 86 but not sure. Definatly nicer to be able to pull the drums off with out pulling axles.
Happy Trucking.

CoryM 12-20-2001 10:55 PM

Fast, It was DEFINATLY done. Just not sure what year. I know of a 98 courier van with pull of drums but cant say for sure of any other years. Think it was 88 or so.
