51 Frame Swap Question
 

Need help with an idea. My dad is rebuilding a 1951 Chevy Truck. He found a 1965 Ford frame with a camaro subframe already fitted.

He wants to know if he can make the 51 cab, front end and bed fit the Ford frame?

I told him he should stick with the 70 Chevy Trucks...those are much easier.

Please let me know if the above frame swap is possible.

I would pass on the ford frame. Its going to be fabrication intensive to do it. You may want to look at the S10 swaps here on this forum. S10 are almost the same weight so swapping a frame a running gear works well. The 70's c10 is doable but its a little wide in the front for AD trucks.

I'm with Dwscr. If he doesn't have a frame I'd go for the long bed standard Cab S 10 frame. I'm not known as a great fan of the S-10 frame swaps but it has been done so many times lately here on the board that there is lots of information and one of our members has shared his design for custom cab mounts that are fairly inexpensive to build and from what we have seen work quite well. Dead S-10 trucks for doner rigs are also pretty cheap in most areas and you can probably sell off any usable body parts.

The Ford frame will probably end up being more headaches than a pair of guys want to fight with.

Take a tape measurer and compare some critical points to the 51. It might be OK and then again, it might just be a miserable SOB.
