Oil in my tailpipe?

I was driving my 72 Jimmy this weekend and noticed that there was oil in my tailpipe? it smokes alittle bit but not too bad! what does this mean? its only in one side of the dual exhausts too

possible bad valve guides or bad oil rings. How much oil are you losing?

if it only smokes when you first start it up and then it goes away, that would point to bad valve guides. If it smokes when running when you step on gas hard, then oil rings.

other things could be cracked head or block?? (to have wet oil coming from tail pipe)

Big Blu,
i don't know if this is your situation or not, but Sometimes an older truck will soot up the inside of the exhaust system, and condensation from heat up and cool down cycles will accumulate moisture that will wash out some of the soot which leaves you with a black oily residue that dripps out of the tailpipe especially in the mornings. yours may be actual oil, but if it looks black i would bet its soot. anyway best of luck to you. Tony
