Help with Subwoofer rattle
 

Hey everybody, I was just wondering what to do to keep my sub box from rattling excessively. I know this is just a fact of life when putting subwoofers on an older truck, but I didn't know if putting some kind of insulation between the box and the back panel would help. I just got the box attached to the top of the original gas tank brackets. Thanks

There's all kinds of things you can do for excessive rattle, but first is to determine exactly what is rattling. From there, you can try to eliminate it by removing it or covering it with something. With my first car at 16, I lined the truck outter panels and license plate with old cutup bicycle inner tubes...I didn't know about dynomat, but it worked good enough for a kid with no extra money.

The best bet is to get some type of dynomat (pick your flavor as there's a lot to choose from) and cover the area behind and under the box at least. It would be best to cover the entire floor all the way up the back of the cab, up the firewall, and inside of the doors, but that gets expensive.

different sounds vibrate parts at different levels,seen expanding foam used inside pillars other places to stop it
maybe some sort of spray bed liner,but i will say the dyno stuff makes for a quiet cab ride with out the radio

Dynamat for the metal bits that rattle. If the box itself is flexing and making noise, then you will need to reinforce the box itself.
