I put Thompsons Wood sealer on mine, there's no gloss but there's protection.

hey copso53! i just did my bed clear, with poleurathen, it came out fantastic! i put 3 coats on with sanding between coats. i used 220 grit paper between coats. after that i put another 3 coats on sanding with 320 for coat 4-5. i also used a 2 inch roller on the last 3 coats. it worked wonders for me!just my 2 cents worth. good luck, have fun!

I use my truck as a truck, so I didn't bother with polyurethane or anything like that. I lay down a layer of deck sealer every now and again. No gloss, keeps the wood looking good, and its easy to lay down.

Marine Spar Varnish
Think about it.... it's what is used on antique wooden boats.
You'll only find it at actual paint stores, not Lowes/Home Depot type stores.
If you can coat a wooden boat, then plop it in the water for several years, that's gotta be the best bet for protecting your wood bed.
It's what I used.
