I just put in the "Fatmat" in last night. I did my firewall, floor, back cab wall, cab corners, all inside the doors, and still have enough to do a second layer on my firewall and still have a little left over... I started with 100sqft'

Re: sound deadener
whats the fatmat go for..
I've seen alot of cars/trucks use the bed liner in the interior |
Re: sound deadener
Looking at the picture of the summit stuff, it appears to be some type of fiber insulation. That would make it good for a firewall and perhaps for the roof or a backing on door panels but likely not great for floor boards or any other wear or traffic areas... still probably better than the silver bubble wrap stuff ;)

Re: sound deadener
I used Second Skin Damplifier Pro. Good stuff also.

Re: sound deadener
fatmat here as well ....

Re: sound deadener
Is the original firewall insulation left in place and these materials installed over it, or is it removed?
|
Re: sound deadener
Reading all I have read says you should have clean sheet metal. If you put it over the old firewall insulation, at some point it's going to fall away from the firewall.

Question: Does it make sense to do the underside of the hood? Any pros or cons to it? |

I used something call cool-tec I think it was called just like dynamat but a a cheaper price I found it here locally at a performance shop and it works awesome....

Re: sound deadener
I used dyna mat in my bb truck and just cut into small squares and placed it in hollow places- doors, rear of cab, around rear light etc. I just installed fatmat in the same fashion in my 4x4 yesterday and could tell an immediate difference just tapping on the various sheet metal sections. I can only imagine what an entire cab would be like with this stuff. It sounds very solid and not "tinny" with just what I did . Get the fat mat off ebay you can get it cheaper there if you shop.

good thread

Re: sound deadener
I reckon if these old trucks had this stuff installed when they were built, with all the rainwater leaks that they developed over the years there wouldn't be a solid cab floor in the country today. I'll stick with the old fashioned underlay, I can remove that stuff and dry the whole thing out if need be before the damage is done....JMO.

Re: sound deadener
I used from Mc Master-Carr, #9709T39 Sound and Vibration Damping Sheet EVA Mastic, .079" Thick, 32" X 54". Then cover it with #9367K65
Foil-Faced Bubble Wrap Insulation 36" Wide, 25 ft Roll Length. I used 3m spray adhesive for the insulation sheet. All of this is a damn site cheaper than the "brand X" stuff. My $.02 |

Re: sound deadener
No problems whatsoever. I used the mastic inside of the doors and put the insulation under the panels. I also put some under the headliner and any other areas that needed dampening. The "other" brands just are a sound deadener but I needed insulation as well but I guess you could always put the insulation on that stuff as well without complication.
This truck is as quiet as a Lexus :) |

Does the Fatmat stuff only kill sound or does it insulate against heat too? I am wondering if two layers under foot would help for heat in my '46 or if I need to use a different product for that? |
Re: sound deadener
Has anyone used Lizard Skin Coatings? I had planed to use this not only for sound deadening but to seal up all the seams in the floor.... It can be sanded and painted over too.

I used window wrap on my dd available at local lumber yards 30.00 per roll. I have used the same roll under 2 floormats and still have a little left.
