66 c-10 rear tranny crossmember

Is there supposed to be a rear tranny crossmember for a 3 speed saginaw? It has syncros and is 22 inches from the bell housing to end of the tail. Some ppl say theres not one. It only is to use the bell housing mounts for support. Seems like a lot of weight hanging from the those 4 bolts to me. I have the pre drilled holes in the frame rails to accept the crossmember, maybe it was an assy line thing where they drilled the holes in all the frames for different set ups. Sry I have pics but dont know how to post them on here.

Thanks for any help.

Hey "66 Texas" I am pretty sure there was no crossmember for the tranny. I know my 64 definitely didn't have anything past the bellhousing mounts.

For sure there are lots of extra holes in the frame.

Good luck

The EXTRA holes are for the automatic cross member. When you ran the automatic the bellhousing cross member was eliminated.

3 speed in the picture.

Re: 66 c-10 rear tranny crossmember

he more than likely has a car 3 spd in there with the rear trans mount attached (perhaps installed by a PO) to it and thinks that there should be a crossmember there. 3 speed truck trans did not have a rear trans mount in these years as they mounted at the bellhousing and the trans was suspended out there with nothing under it
he didn't have an a/trans in it; just that the holes are there in the frame for the a/t crossmember. the bellhousing c/member from 63 and up was eliminated with a/t as they used alum a/t housings starting then and went to a rear trans mount with those trans

Hey yall, thanks for all the info I guess I can quit worrying about that now. one last thing what about the angle of the drive shaft yoke going into the rear of the tranny some say 1 or 2 degrees down. Mine looks to be directly straight in line with it no angle at all. I wish I could post pics on here for u to see.

Thanks again for ur help.

pretty tough to eyeball 10 2 degrees. replacing your eng mounts frt and rear may bring the eng up a hair or two as gravity deprives a few things of firmness with age or should I say droopy
