oil gauge pegging out
pardon my ignorance, but on my 82 cluster i have the oil gauge that goes from 0 to 60. is it normal for that thing to be pegged out on 60 at all times? and what exactly does the 0-60 represent?

Re: oil gauge pegging out
I have an 87 and the oil pressure gauge stays at 60, it will move slightly back off the peg and back again while the engine is running. It runs great, I think its just something the stock gauge does after awhile on these older trucks. Sorry though, I don't know the more technical reason why it does this.

Re: oil gauge pegging out
Mine will peg out when first starting up and then settle down to 40 psi ;)

Re: oil gauge pegging out
If the gauge pegs with "ignition on and engine off" either the sending unit is bad or you have an open wire to the sending unit. Hard to see on some engines, behind the distributor. If it pegs while engine is running, check the oil pressure with a hand held gauge. If oil pressure is normal most likely the sending unit bad. Hope this helps.

Re: oil gauge pegging out
i'll have to look at it and see what happens. i rarely pay attention to it bu i don't think its ever left 60. of course i don't normally drive it more then 15 minutes at a time so who knows.
